Message from Barry Murphy:
Hi all! As I write this on Monday morning, the 20th of September 2011, I am thinking of the journey for the last 5 years in Charlie´s. I think of the so many decent people that we all have met that we would never have known, had we not re-opened the bar in 2006. Its difficult to remember names when you see probably 1000 different people a week, but I dont easily forget faces, and so many who come back again and again.
There are also people that I have got to know very well who have dragged me off to strange places on holidays like Savana, Georgia and many more, and there are folk I’m regularly in contact with and those I meet over and over again when I go back to Ireland, and none of this would have been had we not re-opened Charlie´s Bar.
I had a vision of Charlie´s from the day I bought it of having two main ingredients: the first was to create a fantastic, mad atmosphere with the right staff and musicians plus a serious dose of high positive energy; the second was to create something different musically, like mixing rock with Irish trad and folk. Then Rory came along with so much great original material, it just added to what was already there, along with his unique way of adapting and putting his own stamp on so many cover versions.
Charlie´s is not the type of venue you will hear the “Brown Eyed Girl” etc. at, and I’ll buy the first person 4 pints if they can get Shaky to drum “Sweet Caroline” and “Alice” – no, make that a gallon!

I would like to thank the staff and musicians who helped turned this concept into reality over the years and we look forward to the next five years with as much enthusiasm, if not more! It is and always has been very important to me to see Charlie´s moving forward from wherever we are at any given moment, as I would lose interest very quickly otherwise.
I would also like to thank all our special guests who have taken the time to come over and helped contribute to our unique atmosphere: Sharon Shannon, Damien Dempsey, Finbar Furey, Mundy and The Wolfe Tones. I am forever grateful.
Finally, I would like to thank all the customers, regulars and not-so-regulars who all helped keep this show on the road and those who contributed in many different ways to build Charlie´s to what it is now. We appreciate you custom immensely and without you Charlie´s would be nothing.
Simply…. thank you.
Barry Murphy
P.S.: We show All Major Sports in our lovely little cool watering hole the “Craic n´Ceol” in the Old Town of Puerto del Carmen….
